PFW | Put on your spacesuit, Chanel takes off to the Moon

Invading social media on its way off to the Space

Closing Paris Fashion Week, Chanel once again has fulfilled Lagerfeld’s goal: spark massive attention and invade both the runway and social media. For many years on now, the shows offered by Chanel were voyages where Karl Lagerfeld was able to bring the audience in the corners of his mind. After the airport, the data center, off we go to… the Moon. Entering the show, a rocket throned in the middle of the set, waiting to take the audience on-board.

In his previous RTW show, the Chanel Data Center, Karl Lagerfeld has shown his interest for the future and a will to represent it in his shows. Here again, the designer tapped into Chanel’s tradition to create futuristic silhouettes. To fit in with the global space idea, but still sticking with the Chanel DNA, they mixed their traditional colours such as black or navy blue with metallic ones. They revisited their classic pieces to make them more space-friendly: the legendary tweed jackets were silver and shimmering, covered with survival-blanket-like capes and the bicolour boots were full of glitters.

If Lagerfeld is always at the cutting edge of newness, he does not get rid off tradition. Indeed, the genius of the man is precisely to elegantly combine Chanel’s exceptional savoir-faire with his resolutely modern ideas. For instance, it was Desrues, the centenary “Parurier”, that took care of realising many of the Kaiser’s ideas for the collection’s jewels or collars.

Finally, the Chanel rocket took off, invading social media on its way to the moon.

Oh, and by the way, the LED bags from the previous Data Center show are now online, and they rock!
