Accenture x CFDA | A collab to to help shape how the fashion industry integrates technology

After announcing its own Retail Lab back in May, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), is partnering with consulting giant Accenture. The collaboration, combining the creativity from CFDA’s membership with Accenture’s expertise in technology, will create talent-development programs for fashion designers and retailers.

A first partnership of this kind within the global fashion landscape

Accenture is the first official “innovation partner” of the recently launched CFDA’s Retail Lab – an innovative program providing tangible values to designers in retail strategy – as such, it will be working closely with the Lab’s select group of emerging designers to provide them with business knowledge, digital skills and customised retail strategies to face today’s highly challenging retail ecosystem.

CFDA’s new collaboration with Accenture will provide our design community with an invaluable resource to help navigate retail and business technology,” Ashley-Brooke Sandall, CFDA’s director of strategic partnerships, told Chain Store Age.

Supported by Fjord (Accenture Interactive’s design & innovation unit) and Accenture Labs (its prototyping and applied R&D projects unit), the collaboration will include inviting designers to experiment technologies such as AI and mixed & VR from Accenture Labs to enhance customer experience and leverage engagement.
In addition, select designers will be participating to a design challenge, extending their academic work in a accelerated design-intensive program.
“The CFDA represents the fabric of the fashion industry and has been instrumental in giving emerging talent a series of platforms to gain real-world business and retail experience,” said Jill Standish, senior managing director of retail at Accenture. “Working together with such a prestigious organization, we can help these designers acquire highly sought-after digital skills needed for them to be at the forefront of industry innovation, grow their businesses and drive tangible business results.
We can’t wait to see the tangible results of such a collaboration, and look forward to seeing if other fashion councils will follow in partnering with tech consulting giants.
